A Little Hutch

I needed something to fill the space next to the stove so I decided a custom hutch was to order. I forgot to take pictures of the beginning or else I did and can't find them.

First I measured the height and cut my side pieces from thin balsa wood( you can get sheets at Hobby Lobby). I decided how many shelves I want and cut braces for the shelves to sit on. It really tries my patience to make furniture with shelves so I thought the braces would make it easier.

I let it dry a while and then I cut out a back piece, gluing it on the base and put the turned pieces in front and let it dry overnight.

Before I put on the counter part I decided it would be easier to put the curtain on. I hand sewed the lace on the bottom.

Next I gathered the top edge with a needle and thread. Then cutting a skewer to size to fit in the gap, I glued it in and glued the curtain to it.

I had cut the counter a bit wonky so I had to cut a second piece that fit better.

And glued it in...

Then it was time to paint it...

Since I had glued the curtain on before I painted it I stuck as much of it under the counter as I could to keep it out of the way so I don't get paint on it.

It's a bit wonky but it fills the space I want it to and matches with the rest of the kitchen and I am quite pleased with the result...
