With the cooler weather I've been thinking of holidays and what kind of holiday traditions I want to start for myself and eventually perhaps for the friends who may join me down through the years. I'm not up for a lot of sweets but I do like trying new foods so I've found a few that I'd like to use as way to celebrate autumn and it's beauty.
Let's start with bread:
First I want to mention this pear bread. It's got good reviews on Pinterest and even though I haven't tried it yet I hope to in the next few weeks...
For rolls, these are my pick. I haven't tried either of them yet...
These look so cute! I thought that they would be a good thing to add to my list of fall foods I want to try. https://www.beyondkimchee.com/pumpkin-dinner-rolls/
I also found these apple cheddar scones with sage that looked good. https://lifearoundthetable.ca/apple-cheddar-scones/
I haven't really come up with anything meat wise except that I tried sloppy joes the other day for the first time.
I didn't have any tomato sauce or tomato paste so I just used some marinara sauce. It turned out well.
I think these could also have a meat filling in them...
I think these look so pretty. One day when I have a day off and I have the ingredients I would like to try them. They don't seem too complicated, just time consuming. https://misswondersmith.com/blog/2021-goulashhandpies
I've had a hard time picking vegetable dishes because I saw so many I'd like to try but I narrowed it down to a few.
Roasted vegetables are one of my favorites ways to eat veggies.
This creamed corn looks so good! I tried it and decided to change it a bit. In a separate pan I fried some bacon and when done fried a pound of hamburger. The pan I had the corn in was hardly big enough so when the hamburger was no longer pink I added the corn to it and then just before taking it off the heat I added a bit extra cream because with the hamburger it was like a double batch. I didn't add sugar. It turned out very well!
Stuffed squash is something I think I only made once. Most of the time I don't have a lot of the ingredients on hand but this looks good...
Just about everyone likes desserts, so here's my choices...
I tried this pumpkin pecan cobbler and it was amazing! I had gotten some pecans because I've been so hungry for a good homemade pecan pie but of the two I chose this. The pie will come later.
This is another one I want to try soon. https://www.lecremedelacrumb.com/cheesecake-stuffed-baked-apples/
Spice cakes are one of my favorite, especially with cream cheese frosting! https://www.tastesoflizzyt.com/pumpkin-spice-cake-with-cream-cheese-frosting-recipe/
I think it's only fitting to add a tree stump cake...I would probably try to find a recipe that uses ingredients that I'm more familiar with but I think it would be awesome to create one like this!
This is another one I want to try soon...
I don't think the dessert list is quite complete without a simple fruit salad...
Here's some cookies and bars,etc...
Mushrooms catch my attention when I'm in nature and so I think adding mushroom shaped cookies to my fall celebration is just perfect!
These I would make from scratch except for maybe the pretzels and marshmallows... they make me wish I could sit in front of a campfire with friends...
We can't forget the acorns. I couldn't find a healthy recipe but I'm sure I could up with something a bit healthier in some aspects. A homemade cookie for the cap and a split pecan for the stem. Maybe a granola bar mixture with some cocoa for the main part... 🤔
These sound good...
This one sounds easy...
I tried these the other day. I didn't add as much sugar as called for and I didn't have enough graham cracker crumbs to roll them in so I just spread the mix in a bowl. It was a little bit on the sticky side to try to roll them in crumbs but it could be that I added too much liquid... it does have a very good taste. Definitely would be much better rolled in graham cracker crumbs with white chocolate!
I find it hard to eat "normal" breakfast foods especially eggs. I like baked oatmeal and I make eggs occasionally but usually my breakfast starts with a sliced apple and peanut butter and then whatever leftovers or other filling tidbits I might have around. Here's a few breakfast ideas I want to try...or have tried ...
I don't like oatmeal very much probably because it associates with memories from the past. I prefer baked oatmeal, but I thought this sounds good.
This turned out well. I made half the recipe. It is not sweet so if you like it sweet you may have to add more sweetener....
I don't remember where I found the recipe I use but this one is very similar. I don't have a waffle maker so I make them as pancakes and when I'm running short on time I've dumped the batter in a cake pan and baked it because it takes less time than flipping pancakes. If you try baking it, just make sure to grease the cake pan first so it doesn't stick to hard to the sides... https://www.savorynothings.com/simple-pumpkin-waffles/
Here's a few unique things I would like to try...
I have only made parfaits a few times, usually when I have someone to my house for a meal, but it is one of those things where I can be very creative. It's something I've been wanting to do again lately... https://hostessatheart.com/honey-yogurt-parfait/?utm_source=pinterest&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=social-pug
Another good looking one...
I like chia seed pudding. Usually I make it with milk and add vanilla and maple syrup so this would be a new twist for me... https://thenaturalnurturer.com/pumpkin-pie-chia-pudding/
This one has ingredients I don't usually buy so I'd probably create my own and simplify it a bit using this recipe as a guide...
Now I think I shall add a few finger foods yet to round out this collection of fall celebrating with food...
One time I was at a cafe and tried a sandwich of sorts with Brie and fig jam and I loved it. I want to see if I can find something a little more simple than this to try as in the puff pastry as that looks a bit tall of a task to try and id prefer homemade over store bought because of the additives...
Bacon wrapped brussel sprouts...
Honey roasted pumpkin seeds...
Stuffed mushrooms are a favorite!
I'm sure I could find more to add to this list but I think I've got enough for now. Do you have any favorite fall recipes? I would love to hear about them in the comments! And as always... thanks for taking the time to read my writings...
