Head Covering, Yes or No? Part 2

Ever since I wrote the last article I've been praying about this subject and how God wants me to do personally. So I would like to share what has happened since then...and here is the link to the first article in case you want to read the first part to see where I'm starting from:

Every time I've tried to study 1 Corinthians 11 on the head covering subject, I never got very far. A lot of things just don't fit together and are only referenced vaguely in other parts of Scripture. I couldn't figure out where the nature part or the angels fit in. Let me post here for you:

1 Corinthians 11:3-15

[3]But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

[4]Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

[5]But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

[6]For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

[7]For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

[8]For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.

[9]Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

[10]For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

[11]Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.

[12]For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.

[13]Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

[14]Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

[15]But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

I've listened to those who say that ladies need to cover their heads, those who say they don't, and those who claim it means a spiritual covering. So here I am in the midst of these 3 views, wrestling with this topic, wanting to be rid of it because of the ties to my past but also since it is in Scripture I want to be willing to obey God if it is more pleasing to Him for me to wear something on my head. I got the answer to my question last night which I will share later.

A bit ago I came across the Cultish Show and saw how they tried to expose cults and dangerous beliefs and false teachings etc. and found their content very interesting since I like to be aware of these things so that I don't become deceived.

I came across this video they did about the Church of Wells which is a cult in Texas, and just how this guy they were interviewing got involved in trying to help people escape. Here's the link:

Last night I wanted something to listen to and decided to see if they had done a part 2 and they had.

It was really interesting. One thing that was brought out about these people who are cult leaders is how they have these revelations from "God". There was conversation about all these different leaders and their revelations as well as false prophets for that matter and how the things they say don't line up with Scripture. Here's a few Scriptures:

Deuteronomy 17:6

[6]At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

Deuteronomy 19:15

[15]One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

2 Corinthians 13:1

[1]This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

1 Timothy 5:19

[19]Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.

Hebrews 10:28

[28]He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

Revelation 11:3

[3]And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

By these verses we can see that there is a general theme that there are to be at least 2 or 3 witnesses to say something is wrong. This was the biggest thing I got out of the last mentioned video above.

There are quite a few people I follow on YouTube due to their good Scriptural content, the Amish Potato being one of them. I saw that he had posted a video about headcoverings and so I watched it. I could identify with all the things he said despite him coming from an Amish background instead of a Mennonite, but there's so many similarities that a lot of things are almost identical. Here is the link to the video in case you want to watch it:

I should also share that a few days before I had also watched this lady's videos on hair and 1 Corinthians 11. One thing that really got my attention was that she mentioned how that Paul mentions the head covering in 1 Corinthians 11 but doesn't mention it 8-10 years later when he writes to Timothy at the church in Ephesus. All he wrote was:

1 Timothy 2:9-10

[9]In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

[10]But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

There are three parts which I will share next:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

As I watched the Amish Potato's video on head coverings last night he mentioned the Naked Bible podcast. Since it was too late in the evening I left it for this morning. I must say I got several good chuckles out of it, but just be warned that it is for adults only due to its content, but it just brings so much light to the whole section of 1 Corinthians 11 where Paul mentions women covering their head. He shares a lot of quotes from Hippocrates who was considered the leading authority on medical science of the day, which by the way is where the hippocratic oath comes from that doctors take. Here's the link:

Don't you agree that the Bible can be really dry at times? I find it very fascinating to read about scholars' discoveries and things they find and puzzle pieces they put together in their research. It just adds so much life to the Bible and we have no excuse to not tap into their work to help us understand Scripture even better and to understand what may have been going through the authors' minds as they wrote the books of the Bible without realizing it, for in all reality, it is mostly a bunch of letters and history that was written down so it doesn't get forgotten. There's so much we can learn from it all.

Now after all this, I was praying last night before going to bed and once again I asked the Lord to help me understand His will for me personally on the head covering issue as I knew I had to know without a shadow of a doubt in order to not just cower before those who may criticize me for my choice.

I wasn't expecting an answer at all but without warning this thought was injected into my conscious brain: is it verified by two or three witnesses? It was like a lightbulb went on. I had already forgotten what had stood out to me in the church of Wells video. I now knew I had my answer.

Just because this is my answer for me I'm not saying it will be the same for you if you happen to be someone who believes in covering the head. We are each responsible for living with a clear conscience before God for that is ultimately who we will give account to on the Judgement day. It doesn't matter what people think or how they criticize us or treat us as we are not going to give account to them. Yes, God has put leaders over us and we are to follow them as they walk out their relationship with Christ but we are responsible and expected by God and the faithful, true leaders under God to read the Bible for ourselves and to pray and to expect God to teach us how to live through His Word.

I hope you enjoyed this and found it interesting. I will post a few more links below for you to peruse if you so will. Thanks for reading and feel free to leave any questions or comments. Have a good day!

Ps. There's many more people's studies and views out there to read as well. All takes is a little effort and time...
